If mediation fails to result in agreement, the next step may be arbitration. Arbitration is a legally binding decision, but usually takes less time and can cost less than the traditional legal process. Parties must agree on the selection of the arbitrator or panel of arbitrators, to whom they will submit information before whom they will appear in a hearing. As a person seeking arbitration, you may chose to have an attorney represent you, but legal representation is not required. The arbitrator’s decision has the same legal basis as a contractual agreement between the parties.
